Summer Adventure Giveaway

In celebration of the recent summer solstice... I'm doing a fun give-away! YAY!

As you may have (or may not have) noticed I tend re-purpose findings and techniques in new and sometimes unconventional ways... From optical lenses to braille to shark teeth. The design process is a little adventure to me.

Many times this design process requires a bit of humor or wit to get a new perspective on things.

For this give away all you have to do is tell me a joke in the comments.
I will pick my favorite joke and you will get a fun sterling silver "Shark Bites" summer necklace of your choice. (see image below)

Made from mioncene era shark teeth fossils from the Chesapeake bay little accent beads from turquoise, onyx or coral , and a bit of wit stamped on a sterling silver tag that says:

"LOOKIN SHARP", "SHARP", MAN EATER","I BITE" OR "BITER"

P.S. Make sure you're signed up to receive email updates because this is where I will announce the winner after July 14th 2011

Chesapeake Bay, MD

Living in D.C. the closest beach I can visit is on the Chesapeake. I go there several times a year not only to enjoy the coastal breezes and get some sun but also to collect sharks teeth for my jewelry.

These shark's teeth are miocene era fossils that erode from the cliffs. I spend a couple of hours collecting these tiny little beauties sifting through the shore.

On a sad note, the Chesapeake is also one of the more contaminated waterways and has seen a decline not only in the water's cleanliness but in the natural wildlife. The Washington Post just did a really interesting photo journal of the Chesapeake watershed sharing some of its history and current physical state that i think is worth a read.

(Also worth a look is a great slide show featuring aerial shots of the watershed.)

This summer I'm donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of my shark teeth jewelry to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation...

Every little bit helps. Considering it's the only beach I have I'd like to continue enjoying my visits there for some time to come.

I'll be making new designs all summer so be sure to check in often ;) Here are some of the classic designs i'll be keeping in stock as well:

New in July

While i anxiously wait to hear from Crafty Bastards.....i've been busy with custom orders with a little time for some creative explorations.... thought i woudl share:

1) Custom Puppy Sillhouettes : The customer sent me her puppy profiles i then created a silhouette for her to approve and continued to cut them from 20 gauge sterling silver. Pendants were then hand stamped with their names. cute, no?!

2) Custom Braille: I hadn't done these in a while... i'm guessing the customer went through some of my sold items and saw a similar item... she also ordered another bracelet with mixed the braille with the cloud pendant. very cute. A lot of great ideas come from custom orders...which is why i'm always happy to make them.

3) Necklaces for layering- I'm really into layering long necklaces with short ones over solid color shirts and summer dresses so i started creating some simple and colorful themed necklaces for the summer. I wear them out a lot because they're such and easy accessory to work with.

Anyways I'm keeping busy in hopes of some good news ;) Hope everyone is having a great summer.
CHEERS!
